Monica Y. Cho
Monica Y. Cho is a Partner at the Firm practicing in the areas civil litigation, landlord/tenant law, employment law, criminal defense, land use, election law, and appellate practice.
Prior to joining the Firm, Ms. Cho gained substantial experience in a wide range of civil and criminal litigation as a Senior Associate at a New Jersey general practice law firm. Her areas of practice included breach of contract, traffic violations, personal injury, quasi criminal proceedings such as driving while intoxicated or misdemeanor offenses, and criminal actions dealing with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, vandalism, arson, and endangering the welfare of children.
In addition to private clients, Ms. Cho has represented several municipalities and local boards. In this capacity, Ms. Cho advised and represented public entities in connection with issues concerning land use, condemnation, prerogative writ actions, Title 59 actions, municipal court appeals, employment and workplace issues, discrimination and harassment complaints, and landlord/tenancy matters.
In the course of her presentation of public entities, Ms. Cho has served as Public Defender in the Hackensack, New Jersey Municipal Court, Public Defender for Korean speaking persons in Demarest, New Jersey, and Tenant Advocate in Union City, New Jersey.
Ms. Cho began her legal career as a judicial Law Clerk to New Jersey Superior Court Judge, John A. McLaughlin, Civil Law Division, Hudson County.
Following the clerkship, Ms. Cho joined a litigation firm in New Jersey, which specialized in civil defense litigation on behalf of professionals such as architects, engineers, and accountants. The focus of her practice involved issues of professional liability, insurance coverage, and workers’ compensation claims. She performed all aspects of pre-trial litigation including research and writing, preparation of legal documents, and appearances at depositions, mediation, and arbitration.
Monica Y. Cho graduated cum laude from Bryn Mawr College with a Bachelor of Arts major in political science and minor in psychology. She then obtained her Juris Doctoratefrom Rutgers Law School, Newark.
Ms. Cho joined the Law Offices of Ravinder S. Bhalla in January of 2009.
